The artistic investigation of Pippo Patruno can be summarized as order and expression. It is entirely based on the alternation first and subsequently the fusion of geometry and word, through several cycles that have rapidly progressed since the 1990s.
The geometry is at the origin of a refined abstract research with a subtle minimalist origin. It is also a deep Italian research in the management of spaces, proportions, color harmony, which characterized the first thirty years of the artist’s career.
The word is instead foundational in the last part of the artist’s journey for both aesthetic and semantic values, isolated in a central position or converted in its negative picture, the word is multiplied to create a texture.
Residues of figuration remained in his painting until the early 1990s, when the artist discovered the geometric decorations of archeological Messapic artifacts through his restoration activity.
From that moment on, Patruno embarked on a journey of renewal where the modular reiteration became his main expressive tool, a path towards the universal order.
Despite Patruno embraced the abstract art – with geometric, concrete and even metaphysical traits recalling Piero della Francesca and Giorgio de Chirico – he never quits with his past, continuing his never ending artistic research through a consistent and innovative path.
